The Challenger 601-3R variant introduced an important upgrade to the 601 series: the addition of an auxiliary fuel tank, which extended its range significantly. Launched in the early 1990s, this model was designed to meet the demands of longer intercontinental flights, boasting a range of up to 4,000 nautical miles. This capability allowed passengers to travel further without the need for refueling stops, making it an ideal choice for global business travel.

Like its counterpart, the 601-3A, the 601-3R was equipped with General Electric CF34-3A engines and featured the Collins Pro Line 4 avionics suite. These enhancements contributed to the aircraft's performance, safety, and reliability, maintaining its status as a top choice in the luxury jet market.

The cabin of the Challenger 601-3R mirrored the luxurious and spacious design of the earlier 601 variants, offering exceptional comfort and amenities for up to 12 passengers.
